Newsletter and social media terms
The terms you meet building a business on social media and newsletters, each with its own page and everything you need to put it to work.
A

1 termC
7 termsCarousel
A multi-slide post the reader swipes through. Each slide has to earn the next swipe, which is why carousels reward structure.
Character limit
The per-post length ceiling each social platform enforces, such as 280 characters on X and 500 on Threads.
Click-through rate (CTR)
Clicks divided by delivered emails. Platforms disagree on the denominator, so the same send can report different rates.
Click-to-open rate (CTOR)
Clicks divided by opens instead of deliveries. It measures how well the content served the readers who showed up.
Content calendar
A schedule of what publishes where and when, turning consistency from daily willpower into a visible plan.
Conversion rate
Three different newsletter metrics share this name: signup conversion, send conversion, and subscriber conversion.
Cross-posting
Publishing the same content to several platforms. Done verbatim it underperforms everywhere, because each platform rewards a different native shape.

The single clickable destination on a social profile. It is the one piece of a platform profile you fully control.
Link preview
The card a platform renders when you share a URL, built from the page’s Open Graph tags. A broken preview kills click-through.
List churn
The rate at which subscribers leave through unsubscribes, bounces, and inactivity. Growth minus churn is what actually compounds.
List value
An estimate of what your email list is worth as an asset, based on size, engagement, and how it converts.

3 termsReach
The number of unique accounts that saw a post. Reach is rented: the platform decides who sees your work.
Repurposing
Turning one piece of work into several: an edition becomes a thread, a post, and a carousel. The signal compounds while the effort does not.
Revenue per subscriber
Revenue attributable to the newsletter divided by active subscribers. It turns an audience count into a business number.
