Hashtag
A word or phrase preceded by # that can label a post’s topic and connect it with related content on supported platforms.
A hashtag is a topic label, such as #UrbanGardening, that may be clickable or searchable depending on the platform. People use hashtags to group conversations, events, or subjects. Their discovery role varies across platforms and over time.
A community running a weekly drawing challenge can choose a consistent hashtag so participants can find one another’s posts. Capitalizing each word makes a multiword hashtag easier to read and can help assistive technology interpret it.
Adding many hashtags does not guarantee distribution. Use labels that accurately describe the content, and check how the platform currently handles them. A hashtag should support the post’s meaning rather than replace a clear explanation.
