Double opt-in
A signup process that asks a person to confirm their email address before activating a subscription.
Double opt-in adds a confirmation step after a signup form. The sender emails a confirmation link, and the subscription becomes active when the recipient uses it. This helps check that the person signing up can access the address and intended to subscribe.
After submitting a form, a reader sees a message asking them to check their inbox. Once they confirm, they receive the welcome email. Until then, the address belongs in a pending state rather than the regular newsletter audience.
The extra step can reduce completed signups, so measure confirmed subscribers as well as form submissions. Double opt-in can reduce unwanted subscriptions and address errors, but it does not eliminate bots or guarantee inbox placement.
