Subscriber

Someone who signs up to receive a publication or service, such as a free or paid email newsletter.

A newsletter subscriber has asked to receive a publication. Subscription status describes whether that person can currently receive it; payment status describes whether they pay for access. Free subscribers are still subscribers, and a paying customer is not necessarily subscribed to marketing emails.

A reader who fills out a signup form may initially be pending if confirmation is required. After confirming, they become subscribed. If they later unsubscribe, they should stop receiving that publication even if their contact record remains available.

A social follower and an email subscriber are different relationships. A follower receives content through a platform feed; an email subscriber agrees to delivery through email. Neither status guarantees that a person reads every update.
