List value is an estimate of what your email list is worth as a business asset. The simple math multiplies subscribers by revenue per subscriber; more careful versions weight engaged subscribers above dormant ones, because a 10,000-person list that never opens is worth less than 2,000 readers who buy.

The point of the estimate is not precision, it is decisions. Knowing roughly what a subscriber is worth tells you what you can afford to spend on growth, and whether the next hour is better spent on acquisition or on the offer the list already wants.
