Content strategy

A plan for whom content serves, what it helps them do, and how it supports an organization’s goals.

Content strategy defines the audience, their needs, the topics worth covering, and the purpose of publishing. It also considers channels, available resources, and how to evaluate results. It gives individual pieces of content a reason to exist.

A newsletter for first-time managers might focus on difficult conversations, hiring, and team planning. Social posts introduce a practical situation; newsletter editions explain the method; a public archive makes the lessons available later.

A strategy differs from a content calendar. Strategy explains the audience and editorial choices; the calendar schedules specific work. Publishing more often cannot resolve an unclear audience or a promise that the content does not fulfill.
