What is Carousel?
A multi-slide post the reader swipes through. Each slide has to earn the next swipe, which is why carousels reward structure.
A carousel is a post made of several slides the reader swipes through, supported natively on Instagram and LinkedIn. The format trades instant comprehension for depth: a single image makes its point at a glance, while a carousel can carry an argument across eight or ten frames.
The mechanic that makes carousels work is also what makes them fail. Every slide has to earn the swipe to the next one, so the first frame carries the whole post and each following frame has to advance rather than restate. Platforms tend to reward the format because swiping is dwell time, which is why a carousel that holds attention often outruns a single image on the same idea.
