Internal link

A link from one page to another page on the same website.

Internal links help readers move between related subjects and help search engines discover pages and understand their relationships. Navigation, glossary references, and links from an article to a relevant guide are all examples.

A newsletter definition can link the phrase email list to the email-list definition. A guide about signup forms can then link back to both. The label should make sense out of context and accurately describe the destination.

Internal linking is not a reason to connect every page to every other page. Choose links that answer the reader’s next likely question. A sitemap supports discovery but does not replace useful navigation and contextual links.
