0 of 280 characters

A note on accessibility: styled unicode is read poorly by screen readers, often letter by letter or not at all. Use it for a word or two of emphasis, not whole posts.

X folds long posts behind "Show more" at roughly 280 characters. Everything after the marker is what readers only see if the opening earns the tap.

How bold text works on X

The standard X composer has no bold or italic. Styled Unicode letters display as bold or italic in every app, but X weighs each one as 2 characters, so a bolded sentence uses twice the room. They are also invisible to search: a reader searching your phrase will not find the styled version.

Frequently asked questions

Does bold text count double on X?

Yes. Styled letters sit outside the range X weighs as 1, so each counts as 2. The counter beside the editor shows the real weighted total.

Will styled text hurt accessibility?

It can. Screen readers often read styled letters one by one or skip them. Use them for a word or two of emphasis and keep the rest of the post plain.

How do I undo the formatting?

Select the styled text and choose Undo formatting. The tool turns styled letters back into plain ones.
